Project : Creating a sensory garden to give meaning to life together.

1 - Motivations :

The pollution, the 'ignorance and' indifference to the environment, which are everywhere in Lebanon, led us to think about a project whose objective is to educate youth and adolescents of school knowledge and the conservation of the environment around them and let them discover the importance of geting into communication with all parts of the surrounding environment.

After studying and meditating in depth, we decided to reach our goal, to create a Garden of sensory education which promotes the strengthening of ties between people and the natural environment in which they live and the development of a new, more conscious and respectful attitude towards it. The aim is to discover and start from the smallest, for students, and through them to adults, the importance of the inseparable bond between life on earth and the need for respectful behavior of nature.

Wishing to see realization of this project that create interest and desire, shared by different religions, ethnic groups, people of every social condition and sex, which, under the flag of universal protection of the environment, constitute the story on which to establish good social relations, by time, among the residents of the territory.

THE GARDEN AND SENSORY ENCOURAGING, FOR PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES AND IN PARTICULAR FOR THE BLIND THAT ARE FORMING A SOCIAL BAND FOR WHICH IN LEBANON THERE IS STILL MUCH TO DO.

THE FINAL PROJECT WILL BE 'THE IMPORTANCE OF A MUSEUM THAT WILL NATURAL' ATTRACT OCCASIONAL VISITORS FROM OTHER PARTS OF THE LEBANON AND BE PLACED IN TRAVEL PROGRAMS FOR FOREIGN TOURISTS.

2 - Philosophy of the project :

Today, Friday, November 18, 2011, with Abuna Abdo Raad, I was for the first time in Kfarnabrakh to see the piece of land, long owned by his family, where you want to realize a dream: the creation of a "sensory garden give meaning to life together.

Where Abuna Abdo was playing as a child. There he fantasized about the shapes of the stones that evoke real and fantastic animals, followed the play of shadows created by the path of the sun and moon in the sky, watching them and was curious about the life of the wild plants and followed the movements of the inhabitants of the small -Heaven's Garden. Paradise comes from a Persian word which means: the best of all the gardens, so beautiful, so beautiful, but that could be imagined! We believe that it can become reality and we will strive for this

Right now the site has a large part in its natural state with many stones and pebbles including a live vegetation, partly covered with asphalt and there are the foundations of a house that has not been completed.

The intention is NOT to clear the ground, terracing NOT to do and to remove and move the smallest possible number of stones and rocks, that is not to intervene in order to lose the memory of those elements that have always made "that" piece of the planet unique in the world, not to overturn the garden of the small Abdo.

According to the way we feel, the project should be implemented in strict compliance with the morphology and the specific peculiarities of the place: on the side of Nature.

But it is a desire making a garden, do not give way to absolutely natural evolution, which implies that there is a gardener, interpreting and identifying with the place in nature, putting, again, the part of Nature, will be able to draw on all its aspects more specific by highlighting the unique characteristics and, having made a pact, made an agreement, reached a harmony with the nature of that place, conceive and realize the dream of Abuna Abdo: A Sensory Garden to give meaning to life together.

So this gardener does not decide by itself which make the garden but will be advised by the bending of the terrain, the depressions that hold rainwater more than others, from small and large open spaces between the stones and the observation of plant species that already reside hours there and give a valuable and precise information on the composition of that soil. It will be a continuous and endless collaboration between man and nature: a way of life just as he dreamed Abuna Abdo.

A small portion of that land will be left completely free to evolve at its wish without any intervention of the gardener and will be an important workshop on biodiversity and phytosociology of the place.

The confines of the property will be defined with a hedge of trees multifunctional its own territory that will have an aesthetic function, a protection from possible external pollution and winds it will become a micro system for the life of insect,birds and small wild animals with which the sensory garden will learn to live together and produce fruit for delicious jams and syrups refreshing.

Visitors can enjoy the fragrance of honey juice straight from the comb. The gardener will keep a diary with details descriptions of every encounter with the place and its changes and shall accompany the photos in order to have a written and illustrated the evolution of this understanding between man and nature, on going this garden.

So nothing static or default route to be discovered, but with a specific purpose: to restore a good relationship with the surrounding world to interact in a synergistic way and be able to involve the various local communities to collaborate in this project of common interest recovering good practice of living together.

The design can not be computer generated but must be made on site, day after day, hearing the opinion of those who lived through those places and inserting gently, without aggression or violence in the changing nature of the land.
